HEAD tennis rackets: find the family that best suits your game

HEAD tennis rackets cover a wide range of playing profiles, from beginners and intermediate players to competition and high-performance tennis. Choosing the right racket is not simply a matter of design or weight: you should also consider how much power you need, how much control you can generate, how easily you produce spin, and the stability and manoeuvrability of each model.

At Ipontennis you can compare the main HEAD families, choose the correct grip size and complete your racket with a professional stringing service tailored to your level, playing style and preferred feel.

What sets the HEAD racket families apart?

HEAD organises its range into families with clearly differentiated playing characteristics. Some prioritise racket-head speed and versatility, while others focus more on control, spin, accessible power or a more classic response. Within the same collection, there are also usually versions with different weights, head sizes and levels of demand.

For that reason, two rackets from the same brand can feel completely different. A player with a fast swing may need a stable, precise frame, while another may benefit from a lighter, more forgiving racket that is easier to manoeuvre.

HEAD Speed

One of HEAD's most versatile families. It is designed for players who want to combine racket-head speed, precision and a quick response. The range includes options for intermediate and advanced players, as well as lighter, more manoeuvrable versions.

HEAD Gravity

Aimed at players looking for stability, modern control and a generous hitting zone. Their response helps you build points with depth and confidence, especially if you use long, full swings.

HEAD Extreme

The family most clearly focused on power and spin. It is particularly well suited to aggressive baseline players who want to generate rotation, depth and a heavy ball.

HEAD Boom

Designed to provide accessible power, comfort and easy acceleration through the ball. Boom rackets can suit players who want a lively, dynamic response without using an overly demanding frame.

HEAD Prestige

A historic range aimed mainly at experienced players who value control, stability and a clean feel at impact. It demands more developed technique, but rewards well-executed strokes.

HEAD Instinct

A comfortable, accessible option for players who want help with easy power, manoeuvrability and forgiveness on off-centre hits. It is well suited to a straightforward, less demanding playing experience.

A distinctive option within the HEAD range, intended for players looking for an unconventional geometry and a different combination of stability and response at impact.

How to choose weight and manoeuvrability

Weight directly affects how easily you can move the racket and how stable it feels at impact. Lighter models are generally easier to manoeuvre and can help developing players. Mid-weight rackets offer a useful balance of mobility, power and control, while heavier versions demand greater technical and physical preparation.

Balance, head size and length also matter. A light racket will not always feel more manoeuvrable if too much of its mass is concentrated towards the head, while a slightly heavier racket can feel stable and fluid when it is well balanced.

Stringing also changes how the racket feels

Your choice of string and tension can noticeably change the feel of a HEAD racket. A more comfortable string setup can provide easier depth and reduce perceived stiffness, while a configuration focused on control or spin may better suit players with faster, more developed swings.

There is no universal tension that works for every player. Technique, playing frequency, string type, any physical discomfort and the desired balance between power, control and comfort should all be considered.
